Caller: Hi, I'd like to join the evening swimming class.

Caller: It's Meera Shah. That's S, H, A, H.
Receptionist: Thank you. Which day would you prefer, Tuesday or Thursday?
Caller: Thursday is better for me, because I work late on Tuesdays.
Receptionist: The class starts at six thirty and lasts for forty-five minutes.
Caller: Great. How much is the monthly fee?
Receptionist: It's twenty-eight pounds a month.
Caller: Fine. Do I need to bring anything?

Caller: Perfect. Thank you!
Reading Sample Test · Gardens Above the City
Read the passage and answer the questions. Suggested time: 12 minutes.
Gardens Above the City
A In many crowded cities, flat roofs that once held only water tanks are being turned into gardens. Residents are now growing vegetables, herbs and flowers several floors above the street. Supporters say these spaces bring nature back into neighbourhoods where parks are scarce.
B The benefits are not only social. A planted roof absorbs rainwater that would otherwise rush into drains, which can reduce local flooding. Plants also shade the roof surface, so the rooms below stay noticeably cooler in summer, and residents may use their air conditioners less.
C However, rooftop gardens are not suitable for every building. Soil becomes very heavy when it is wet, and older roofs may need to be strengthened before any planting begins. For this reason, engineers recommend a structural survey first. Care is another challenge: without regular watering and weeding, a garden can decline within a single dry season.
Questions 1–3 · Matching Headings: choose the correct heading for each paragraph.
i. Practical limitations · ii. Environmental advantages · iii. A growing trend in cities · iv. The history of roof design
Questions 4–6 · True / False / Not Given
Question 7 · Multiple Choice
Questions 8–9 · Sentence Completion (ONE WORD ONLY)
